What is the Downtown Subarea Plan?

Since the adoption of the City’s first Downtown Subarea Plan in 2009, Downtown Bothell has undergone a remarkable transformation. What was once a corridor dominated by through-traffic and underutilized sites has become a more pedestrian-friendly and active destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.

This update to the Downtown Subarea Plan builds on that progress and establishes a renewed vision for the next 20 years. As Downtown continues to evolve, this plan will help guide future growth, support community needs, and advance Bothell's vision for a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive city center.

Where are you in the planning process?

The draft Downtown Subarea Plan was released for public review in July 2026, with comments accepted through August 31.

Community feedback was collected through:

• Online comments
• A public open house on July 22
• Other community events throughout the summer

The City has reviewed all feedback and updated the draft plan where appropriate to address comments and suggestions.

How has the community been involved thus far?

Community input has been instrumental in shaping the Downtown Subarea Plan Update. Throughout the project, the City and its consultant team have hosted a variety of ways for people to get involved, making sure a wide range of voices were heard.
